Exactmer is a life science start-up dedicated to creating technology for producing precision polymeric molecules with our patented Nanostar Sieving Technology. Our mission is to enable manufacture of exquisite synthetic and biological therapeutic polymers that play a crucial role in improving patient’s quality of life. From oligonucleotides to mono-disperse polyethylene glycols (PEGs), ADC linkers, peptides and beyond, we are working to improve the future of biomedicine.

We are a team of around 25 people, London-based, searching for a self-starting, dynamic, flexible and committed individual to join our team. We are currently seeking a skilled Senior Research Engineer / Research Engineer to join our Membrane and Purification Team and have a key role in the development of our innovative products.

 

Responsibilities

As a Senior Research Engineer at Exactmer, you will drive the development, optimisation, and scale-up of Exactmer’s membrane technology to enable Nanostar Sieving. You will work on all stages of membrane R&D, leading experimental design, developing new membranes, and improving the performance of existing systems. This work will be directly transferred into manufacturing at Exactmer’s Advanced Membrane Manufacturing Suite. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where creative engineering, scientific rigour, and problem-solving are essential.

Your key responsibilities at Exactmer will be:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of new membrane materials and modules, including polymer selection, surface modification, and structural design.
  • Improve existing membrane manufacturing processes through troubleshooting, optimisation, and developing operational strategies.
  • Scale-up membrane manufacture and support the technology transfer of new products into manufacturing.
  • Mentor and support junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Adhere to Exactmer’s quality standards, best practices, and safety.
  • Excellent documentation of experimental procedures, results and conclusions.

 

Skills/Experience

  • PhD or MSc/MEng in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field
  • Technical expertise in membrane separations (e.g., OSN, UF/DF, NF, membrane characterisation, process modelling).
  • Strong laboratory experience preferably of membrane manufacturing.
  • Experience with process development in a laboratory or industrial setting.
  • A desire to learn fast and tackle many different aspects of creating a new technology and new products.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
